Luke The Labourer

John Baldwin Buckstone 1802 - 1879 wrote the book 'Luke the Labourer' which was a stage play with music. Within the book was a poem 'Dashes of Iniquity' and the poem which was printed in the Glasgow Sentinel is reproduced below.

Please note that the name Swindlehurst is used in this poem in the 4th verse. It sounds as though Mr Swindlehurst must have been a rent collector for the Duke of Hamilton. He certainly appears to have been despised.
